This painting started as an alphabet of duplicity. Each word I found captures an aspect of this concept and reality. I was able to find appropriate words for 21 of the letters in the alphabet.

This painting was part of a mixed media installation at Chestnut, a gallery in Baltimore.</description>

<description>Furniture maker Jonathan Bancroft Colon needed some way to promote his work. This look see captures the strong silhouettes in his furniture and celebrates joinery and the integrity of the wood. My contributions include concept, logo, copywriting, photography and layout.

MICA hosted "Social Studies" the Social Studies conference from Friday, October 17 - Sunday, October 19, 2008. Social Studies was part of the Adobe and AIGA Design Educators Conferences and included a variety of workshops and talks that relate to design education.

I was part of a group of 16 graduate students from MICA that created this conference guide. Visiting artist Mike Perry was the creative director during the weekend, leading crits and contributing to some of the content. I contributed to the design/content of these pages/spreads. Mike Perry designed the cover.

NF-Mid-Atlantic, Inc, is a 30-year-old grassroots organization that promotes education and research about Neurofibromatosis (NF), a disfiguring neurological condition. They needed a way to attract donors so we created a tabloid that describes how this nonprofit organization helps the NF community. The 16-page tabloid is driven by quotes from the people we interviewed and educates people about the nature of NF and what it is like to live with the disease.

I advised a team of students from MICA's Design Coalition class who designed this in Spring 2009, including Vanessa Michelle Garcia, Leah Horowitz, Alexandra Kanik, Andrew Levin, Nicholas Penta, and Kidest Mulugeta Sande. The class was taught by Bernard Canniffe.

<description>This type specimen examines Fette Fraktur in the context of Pennsylvania Dutch culture, which has used many variations of this blackletter typeface since settling in southeast PA.

The 16-page booklet describes Hex signs, PA Dutch cuisine and vocabulary variations (German and PA Dutch High German).

<description>I designed this flag for Adbuster's One Flag competition. It was featured as one of 32 finalists on Adbuster's website. Adbuster's challenge was "to create a flag – free from language and well-worn clichés – that embodies the idea of global citizenship."

My approach illustrates a unified world in three ways: by using individual pennants to represent the number of countries in the world, by using the colors from every national flag to fill the pennants, and by wrapping the pennants into seven rings that represent the continents. The flag illustrates global unification by pointing all nations towards a central meeting place.

<description>Watercolor painting of three variations of the Radiotelepathy Spelling Alphabet: NATO, USA, and Royal Navy. Many more variations occurred over the 20th century but these show the biggest naming changes. Over time, and like every other convention that evolves, the changes show improved functionality. In this case that functionality has to do with how the military communicates when in combat or on a mission.
