Maryland Institute College of Art Baltimore, MD (Spring 2010)
Designed curriculum to help students relate formal photographic training to graphic design. Students are challenged to use abstract interpretations of their own photography as inspiration for writing and publication design. Their work begins and ends with formal photographic exercises.

Part-Time Faculty, Type in Motion
Maryland Institute College of Art Baltimore, MD (Fall 2009)
Designed curriculum to give students a thorough understanding of the history of the moving image, fundamental principles of motion design and the important artists and designers who work in the field. Taught motion graphic software to students, including Final Cut Pro and After Effects. Led the students through a series of assignments that culminated in them making their own show reel. Instructor, Studies in Fluid Mechanics
Massachusetts Institute of Technology Cambridge, MA (Summer—Fall 2007)
Designed and taught a course that showed MIT students, faculty and staff how to digitize and edit 8mm film using Final Cut Pro and After Effects. I provided all the film, led all critiques and organized their work in a two-week exhibition under MIT’s Great Dome. The course was funded with a grant from the MIT Council for the Arts, which helped me to advertise the course, purchase the film transferring equipment and rent projectors for the exhibition.

Assisting instructor to create curriculum, critique student work and in leading class discussion. This class will focus will how to use graphic design to help The Men's Center in East Baltimore. Library Service Desk Core Competencies Training
Massachusetts Institute of Technology Cambridge, MA (2006—2007)
Developed, wrote and taught extensive procedures that should be followed at the service desks of all of MIT’s nine libraries. Over 150 distinct categories were identified and I was involved in leading one to two hour long workshops that met monthly and covered approximately 40% of these categories.

Trained and supervised 54 student workers over the course of nearly five years. Developed procedures and documentation that supported student training. Managed student worker schedules so that routine maintenance and large, library-wide projects were performed on a regular basis. Created documentation to reinforce project guidelines. Oversaw budget.

Graphic Designer (2005—present)
Freelance work for numerous organizations and events along the east coast. Shoot and edited video and motion graphics for design studios and institutions. Create graphics for print and promotional materials for events and organizations. Designed exhibitions for galleries and art events. Curated and promoted art and music events. Consulted with nonprofit organizations in need of strategic design thinking.

Center for Design Practice (2009—Present)
Evaluating the process, methodology and outcome of CDP projects at all stages of completion. Creating documentation in the form of descriptions, essays or chapter of books that promote the CDP. Archiving information about past and present CDP projects to approach and evaluate future projects.

Model Maker
Development Design Group Baltimore, MD (2008—2009)
Built scale exhibition models of buildings from a variety of materials, including wood, foamcore, chipboard, polycarbonate and masonite. Designed miniature landscapes that included trees, cars, roads, landscapes and often incorporated lighting and electronics. Traveled to Las Vegas in the summer of 2008 to install several models at the ICSC trade show.

Library Associate
Massachusetts Institute of Technology Cambridge, MA (2003-2008)
Assisted users daily, answering reference questions and circulating library materials. Resolved disputes with users about their fines and lost library materials. Managed student workers and stack maintenance. Oversaw reserves outreach to faculty and reserves processing procedures. Volunteered on six committees. Wrote exhaustive documentation about library procedures.

Internship
Geolibertarian Society Pittsburgh, PA (2001)
Researched and archived articles, essays and abstracts related to the connection between Henry George and the Libertarian party. Designed promotional campaign for “21st North American Conference of the Council of Georgist Organizations,” and organized logistics of the conference.

Design For the Common Good

Presented paper “Lab Rats, Guinea Pigs and Three-Legged Chairs: Design for Social Change in Baltimore” which talks about two design projects that were carried out through the Design Coalition, a social design class at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). One project, lead by Virgina Sasser and Mark Alcasabas, worked with an inner-city boxing gym and the other, lead by me, worked with an organization that helps people who have neurofibromatosis. The paper chronicles each group’s experience working on their project and the outcomes of each.

Created a series of screen savers with Helen Armstrong that spoke to specific themes and sections of the conference. Our keynote screensaver, Typography Lives in Libraries, was themed around the history of typography as it has lived in libraries for millennium.

Pittsburgh, PA (June 2001)
Worked with Pittsburgh-based Geolibertarian Society to organize and promote this conference. Designed promotional signs, organized conference materials, and assisted national and international guests with the logistics of their visit to Pittsburgh.

Boston, MA (February 2007—February 2008)
Started this performance gallery in Chinatown, Boston, and hosted a year-long series of performances and visual art. Recruited artists to co-curated most of the events with me.

Founder and Organizer of Fourth Wall
Enormous Room, Boston, MA (October 2007—January 2008)
Curated this film/video series at the Enormous Room in Cambridge, MA. Forth Wall refers to breaking down the barrier between a performance and the viewers. The films and video art that were included in this series were chosen specifically because they engage the audience. The last show in this series focused on experimental documentaries and featured artists from Africa, Europe and Iran.

Instructor and organizer
Studies in Fluid Mechanics Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, MA (June — October 2007)
Taught MIT faculty, student, and staff how to transfer 8mm films to digital video and edit it using Final Cut Pro and After Effects to create their own video art. The films were created between 1961 and 1967 by members of National Committee for Fluid Mechanics Films, a group started by former MIT professor Ascher Shapiro in 1961 and were discarded from Barker Engineering Library in 2006. The films Ascher’s efforts revolutionized the teaching of fluid mechanics, and Barker Engineering Library continues to circulate these films, only now as DVDs. The project ended with a two week exhibition under MIT’s Great Dome, the location of the library.

Founder and Organizer of Distillery Open Studios Screenings
South Boston, MA (April 2006—April 2007)
Curated this film/video series at the Distillery artist building in South Boston, MA in 2006 & 2007. International artists and filmmakers were included. Resuscitate, the final DOS Screenings, took place in a working boiler room and focused on the use of found footage in video art.
